Who we are

A student-led community for the concrete curious

The ACI Ottawa Student Chapter is a student-led organization affiliated with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and based at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Founded in March 2016, the chapter promotes knowledge, innovation, and professional development in concrete engineering and construction materials.

Through technical seminars, webinars, workshops, networking events, and industry collaborations, the chapter connects students with researchers, engineers, and professionals — while fostering the next generation of leaders in the concrete community.

What we do

From curiosity to capability

Four mandates, inherited from the American Concrete Institute. Everything on the calendar exists to serve one of them.

Promote the visibility of concrete research on and off campus.

Industry relationships

Represent the interests of the ACI and build relationships between industry and students through meetings with employers at monthly seminars and other chapter activities.

ACI awareness

Develop awareness of ACI, its chapters, and the consensus procedures by which the ACI operates.

Career preparation

Prepare students for their future careers through presentations given by industry experts.

In their words

Why members stay

  • Our team placed first for structural efficiency at this year’s regional competition — the result of months of mix testing and hull design.

  • A new partnership gives members access to lab-grade materials and mentorship from practising materials engineers.
